THE MYSTERIES OF BUTTSBURY
BY
KEITH BROWN
REVIEW BY CHARLES PHILLIPS

The Mysteries of Buttsbury written and published by Keith Brown (2002) is only the second book or rather booklet to have been written exclusively on Buttsbury. The previous was Margaret Quenell's St Mary's Buttsbury which came out in 1955. Equally bizarrely I didn't even know that the book was being written.
The book to a large extent is about St Mary's church Buttsbury, although there is something about the lost village of Buttsbury. But this is understandable. The book is well written and well illustrated. All of the illustrations are in colour. I would also say that the book is well researched. For example I did not realise that in the late 1950s there was a possibility of the church being closed down. A fair part of the book deals with the treasures of the burials. But nothing is mention of what is the present parish of Buttsbury; which the earlier publication mentions.
Whilst the cost of £5.00 for a publication of 32 pages may seem excessive, it is definitely worth buying. All profits from the book go to the church funds. The book can be obtained St Mary's Buttsbury.
