won the children's section of the coronation fancy dress competition and was
made painstakingly from two sizes of chicken wire and two colours of cellophane
paper with braces for support by Gladys Keeling of back lane Stock.
After the competition, Gladys's daughter Sheila had to walk all the way from the common to the village with her knees virtually rubbing together. To make matters worse it started raining but as luck would have it a large umbrella fitted neatly over the top.
