Walter Joseph Wright was born and lived in Stock and joined the Essex Regiment in Chelmsford.He achieved the rank of Lance Sergeant but died of wounds received 7th July 1916, during the battle of the Somme, aged 22. He is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery For much of the First World War, Abbeville was headquarters of theCommonwealth lines of communication and No 3 BRCS, No 5 and No 2 StationaryHospitals were stationed there variously from October 1914 to January 1920.
Walter was the son of Joseph and Ellen Wright. His father died in 1913 and Walter went to the National School but his career after that wasnt known.
