Herbert was
origianlly enlisted in Poplar to join the Essex Regiment, but transferred to
the 15th Battalion Suffolk Regimentas a Private. He was killed in action 5th
September 1918 and is remembered on the Vis en Artois memorial. This Memorial
bears the names of over 9,000 men who fell in the period from 8 August 1918 to
the date of the Armistice in the Advance to Victory in Picardy and Artois,
between the Somme and Loos, and who have no known grave. When Herbert died he
left a wife, Mildred Agnes, who lived in Chadwell Heath Essex. |
