Below from John Westwood
Alfred Savill was born in Stock, lived in Linford Essex, and enlisted in Grays. Originally in the Northants Regt (19991), he transferred to the 4th Bedfordshire Regt as a private, Service Number 40602, which was the Extra Reserve Battalion (regular army and not new army).
He was killed in action 14th Feb 1917, in actions on the Ancre near Miraumont, while his regiment was part of the 63rd Royal Naval Division. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 2 C.
