Ellis Cottage, then a house which many, many years ago was the Post Office. Beyond that the building with the white bay windows was the Post Office after that, but before the current one. On the right is the Billericay bus shelter. Ellis Cottages are named after the late village squire Ralph Adam Ellis. Buses arrived in the village in 1913. I understand they could have arrived a few years earlier, but apparently legend has it that some people in the village were worried that they would bring undesirable people into the village. Danbury and Great Baddow had buses in 1905.
